We need your help!
If you are a UK taxpayer, for every £1 you donate, we can claim an extra 25p from the government. Simply give us a few details and we’ll take care of the rest - it won’t cost you a penny!
When you donate money directly to HOPe, please tell the staff member receiving your donation that you wish to Gift Aid it. You will be asked to provide some personal information to allow us to submit a Gift Aid claim to HMRC.
You will also be asked to confirm that you are a UK taxpayer and understand that if you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in the current tax year than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations, it is your responsibility to pay any difference. You will be issued a receipt for your donation that includes this Gift Aid declaration for your records.
When you visit one of our charity shops to donate goods for us to sell, please ask to register for our Retail Gift Aid Scheme.
A member of the team will ask you to complete a form that includes some personal details, as well as an Agency Agreement that describes how we will handle the sale of your goods. We will only use the information you provide to administer the Retail Gift Aid Scheme.
You'll receive a HOPe Gift Aid Card with a unique Donor ID, which can be used next time you make a donation to either of our shops.
Full terms and conditions for our Retail Gift Aid Scheme can be found here.
Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows you to increase the value of your donation by 25% at no extra cost to you. So for every £10 you donate, HOPe can claim back £2.50, making your donation worth £12.50!
An Agency Agreement is part of our Retail Gift Aid Scheme and is a legally binding contract between you and us, where we act as your agent in selling your donated goods. It states:
We will treat the proceeds from the sale of your goods as a cash donation, which we can then claim Gift Aid on.
We will write to you with a notification of the net sales proceeds and Gift Aid claimed in a given tax year (subject to certain conditions being met).
The full Agency Agreement can be found in the Retail Gift Aid Scheme terms and conditions.
Nothing! The money is reclaimed from HMRC out of tax you have already paid.
No.
Yes, if you are a UK taxpayer and have paid Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax that is at least equal to the amount of Gift Aid being reclaimed across all of your donations (not just those made to us).
Yes, if you pay tax, such as on a private pension plan or savings account, or Capital Gains Tax on the sale of property or shares. As long as you have paid enough tax to cover 25% of the value of your donations to all charities in a given tax year, you qualify for Gift Aid.
Please tell us about any changes to your contact details, taxpayer status, or if you wish to opt out of the Retail Gift Aid Scheme and cancel your Agency Agreement. You can do this in store for the Retail Gift Aid Scheme (tell a staff member that you need to complete a Change Of Details form) or write to us using the contact details below:
